Free Templates for IBM Lotus QuickPlace

SNAPPS is pleased to offer IBM Lotus QuickPlace™ customers a series of free, open-source templates for QuickPlace 7! In our role as the official IBM Design Partner for QuickPlace, we have worked closely with IBM to provide you with an enhanced experience, new Web 2.0 functionality, and immediate benefits for new and existing QuickPlace installations.

Our first three offerings are outlined below. More will follow as we approach the debut of QuickPlace 8.0 from IBM!

New: Visit the Support Forum "QForum" for all of the QuickPlace open source projects

Before installing any of the templates, you MUST download the base files that are used by them. Instructions on how these files are installed on the Domino/QuickPlace server are included in each template's readme file, which you will see once you access the individual download.

Base Files (updated Dec 20 2006): Qdojo.zip, qsnapps.zip, QResources.zip

QDoc

QDoc is an enhanced basic template for QuickPlace that adds some exciting new features:
  • A streamlined custom theme
  • Enhanced folders - better navigation, no refreshes, and selectable number of documents to view (10, 30 or 50 at a time)
  • Expand/Collapse controls on discussion folders
  • A brand new way to view QuickPlace folders - "Synopsis View", with direct access to abstracts, metadata and the attachments straight from the view!
With QDoc as a placetype, you can be up and running with the new capabilities in less than an hour. Or, you can take some of the new folder features and add them to your existing placetypes or places! The instructions explain how to implement either scenario.

Like all of our free templates, QDoc leverages the open-source Dojo toolkit (IBM is a supporter of the Dojo foundation) to provide an updated, modern user experience. Dojo is being leveraged by IBM as part of the development of QuickPlace 8.0, but you can experience some of its benefits today! The toolkit has been modified to work with QuickPlace, and must be placed on your QuickPlace server as part of the installation. This activity does not require a restart of the QuickPlace server, and it does not interfere with any core QuickPlace file or system setting, or prevent you from upgrading when QuickPlace 8.0 is available.

QWiki

QWiki is an advanced template for QuickPlace that enables you to maintain a Wiki site in the familiar QuickPlace environment. Some of its features:
  • "Web 2.0" look and feel, accomplished in part with the open-source Dojo toolkit for Ajax
  • Rich text editing (better than most wikis!) including links and images
  • Dynamic link and image procurement and placement
  • Revision history of each and every document, with the ability to comment on the change(s)
  • A clean, streamlined, uncluttered UI
  • RSS Feeds!
QWiki is implemented as a placetype for QuickPlace. It is usable as is, or you can take it apart and add Wiki featuers to your existing places - for instance, in a room.

Like all of our free templates, QWiki leverages the open-source Dojo toolkit (IBM is a supporter of the Dojo foundation) to provide an updated, modern user experience.

  • "Web 2.0" look and feel, accomplished in part with the open-source Dojo toolkit for Ajax
  • Rich text editing (better than most blogs!) including links and images
  • Revision history of each and every document, with the ability to comment on the change(s)
  • A clean, streamlined, uncluttered UI
  • Inline commenting

  • RSS Feeds!
QBlog is implemented as a placetype for QuickPlace. It is usable as is, or you can take it apart and add Blog featuers to your existing places. We don't suggest trying this unless you have significant QuickPlace skills!

Like all of our free templates, QBlog leverages the open-source Dojo toolkit (IBM is a supporter of the Dojo foundation) to provide an updated, modern user experience.
